Bakeries are currently in vogue. Perhaps this is due to the coronavirus pandemic, because getting bread rolls in the morning has suddenly become an event. And now you have to expect queues at really good bakeries. But it’s always worth the wait. We introduce you to three really good bakeries in Cologne.
1. prôt – hand-baked by Alex.
Prôt is the old German word for bread. And that’s exactly what it’s all about here: traditional baking. Back to the origins of bread culture and few ingredients. And you can taste it. There’s a great atmosphere in the store in the Belgian Quarter and the bread tastes great. Let’s go there!

2 Merlê bread and tea enjoyment
Everything really tastes good at Merlê. You’ll find crispy croissants that are juicy on the inside as well as delicious bread and small, delicate tartlets at Artisan Boulanger. Located in the laid-back Lindenthal district, a visit to Merlê can be combined with a long walk in the city forest. Definitely worth a visit!

3. the flour workshop
The Mehlwerkstatt does things differently. Namely sustainable & certified organic. We can only applaud that. Here you’ll find all kinds of delicious treats, from moist bread to incredibly tasty yeast dough “wraps” and much more. You’ll find Mehrwerkstatt on the lively Venloer Straße. Let’s go there!
