Meetings, demonstrations and a lot of commitment to women’s rights. This is how we usually know International Women’s Day. This year’s International Women’s Day is different. Because the lockdown is in force and many are cautious when it comes to crowds and gatherings.
But there is good news: This year, there are a number of online events to mark International Women’s Day. From panel discussions and streaming to digital tours of museums. Here is a brief overview:
“Woyzeck-Interrupted” at the Deutsches Theater
The Deutsches Theater is presenting “Woyzeck-Interrupted” via streaming – a new adaptation of Georg Büchner’s unfinished play from a feminist perspective. This will be followed by a panel discussion with the dramaturge and the lead actress.

Documentary #Female Pleasure at filmRaum
Hamburg’s alternative cinema filmRaum is screening the documentary #FemalePleasure online and free of charge, which explores the struggles of five women from very different backgrounds to overcome their society’s taboos surrounding their sexuality.

“Herstory” at the German Historical Museum

Women painters and “muses” at the Wallraf-Richartz Museum

“Sternstunde Ihres Lebens” at the HAWK
The University of Applied Sciences and Arts is using Zoom to project the film “Sternstunde Ihres Lebens”, a biography of the lawyer Elisabeth Selbert. Selbert fought for the recognition of equal rights for men and women in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany.
