The weather is nice and we promptly spend more money again. An iced coffee here, a beer there – and we’re already running out of money at the end of the month. So that you don’t have to stay at home, we have 10 activities for you that you can do for free in Cologne.
1. free walking tour
A free walking tour is the ideal opportunity to find out more about Cologne. And if you’re new to the city or just visiting, walking tours are a great way to meet new people. As the name suggests, the Free Walking Tour is free and you can simply sit back and let the exciting information flow through your ears.
2. marvel at street art in Ehrenfeld
Ehrenfeld is not only worth a detour because of its cool cafés and bars. You’ll find impressive street art on the walls of buildings here. There is even a real street art route that will take you about two hours to complete. So grab a Wegbier and enjoy the somewhat different vernissage.
3. explore the Rheinauhafen
The Rheinauhafen is a real hotspot on hot summer days. No wonder, because it has a real vacation feeling right on the Rhine. You can marvel at the great architecture or let off steam on the beach volleyball courts and the idyllic skate park.
4. free admission to the museum
Yes, you heard right. Because on the first Thursday of every month, all citizens and residents of Cologne have free admission to the permanent collections and special exhibitions of the city’s museums. As always, all non-Cologne residents have to pay the usual prices.
5th walk in the botanical garden
For all those who like it idyllic. The Botanical Gardens impress with their beautiful flowers and are a feast for the eyes, especially in spring and summer.
6. petting cute animals in the Lindenthal zoo
Not just for the little ones. You can pet super cute animals at Lindenthaler Tierpark – from highland cattle to goats, donkeys and sheep. You currently have to book an appointment online, but admission is free as always.
You can find all the information here.
7. celebrate love on the Hohenzollern Bridge
Is there a more romantic place in Cologne than the Hohenzollern Bridge? We say no. Grab your loved one and take a romantic stroll across the cathedral city’s love bridge.
8th after-work walk in the city forest
The city forest offers you plenty of space to stretch your legs after a busy day. Whether for walking, jogging or cycling – there is definitely enough space here. If you’re feeling particularly sporty, you can stop off at the numerous sports stations in the park.
9. visit the old town
Cologne’s old town is always worth a visit. Stroll through the charming alleyways and marvel at the ancient houses. And you’ll also find a cozy pub or two with a delicious Kölsch.
10. chill out in the Volksgarten
The Volksgarten always has a particularly nice atmosphere. Here you can have a nice picnic in the park or – if you can still find a few pennies – stop off at the Hellers brewery and beer garden. The beer garden has made it into our top 3 beer gardens in Cologne and is definitely worth a visit.
