Thanks to Hollywood and Disney, we have a good idea of life underwater (even if it doesn’t match reality). From the fish nursery in Finding Nemo to the Triton sea kingdom in Ariel to aliens hiding in the deepest crevices, we’ve seen a lot. But have you ever seen someone eating their dinner underwater, on the seabed?
That’s exactly what you can do in the Maldives since last year. H20 is the name of the new underwater restaurant at a depth of six meters, run by renowned Italian chef Andrea Berton. It opened its doors on April 1, 2021 at the luxurious adults-only resort You & Me by Cocoon on Raa Atoll.
Dinner with the fishes
The H20 offers a mix of Italian and Maldivian cuisine, with a focus on fish dishes. Berton refines his risotto dishes with seaweed and his grilled lobster is served on a bed of papaya and coconut. Nevertheless, the greatest pleasure is the underwater life. Thanks to the large windows that surround the restaurant, you can easily observe the sea creatures. Perhaps the takeaway is that we are sitting in our own aquarium and the fish are marveling at us?
The resort opened a year ago and has been busy despite the pandemic. Would an underwater dinner be something for your honeymoon?
