Cologne from a different perspective. Our pearl on the Rhine always looks good – even in these photos taken in space. French astronaut Thomas Pesquet photographed his adopted home of Cologne from his workplace, an international space station. And these spectacular photos were taken in the process.
Thomas Pesquet’s workplace is no ordinary one. The international space station where he works is the largest and longest-lived of its kind. It orbits the earth 16 times a day at a speed of 28,000 kilometers per hour. During one of these orbits, Thomas Pesquet took the opportunity to take a snapshot of Cologne. The astronaut lives and trains in Cologne.
Thomas Pesquet has been head of the ISS – International Space Station – since the beginning of the month. He takes over the station from his colleague Akihiko Hoshide. He has been traveling in the ISS since April and will return to Earth in November.
In the photos, you can clearly see the familiar layout of Cologne, the Rhine and its bridges. The Cologne/Bonn airport can also be seen. Have fun looking for places you know!
