What’s going on in November? Where do so many incredibly good shows come from? Quite simply: it’s Cologne. Anyone who doesn’t perform here simply doesn’t know what’s good. Have fun and good luck with your November budget!
November 8: Courtney Barnett
Admittedly: We don’t listen to as much rock or indie as this list might suggest. But Courtney Barnett is always on our playlists, and not just because her songs have titles like Crippling Self-Doubt and a General Lack of Confidence or Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party. But because they are very concise and catchy reflections on life in the 21st century. And because Courtney is simply cool. On November 8 at the GLORIA, she proves it.
November 8: Franz Ferdinand
Anyone who grew up in the 2000s couldn’t escape them (and perhaps didn’t want to). Admittedly: We’ve lost track of the Scottish band since then, which is not to say that they had stopped making music. The April concert date from the Palladium is now being made up for at the E-Werk. So if you’re lonely…
November 9: Tove Lo
Tove Lo, Sweden’s “darkest pop export” (Rolling Stone) is back with her fifth album, entitled Dirt Femme. On it, she claims that love never kills anyone. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether that’s true when you adore her in the Live Music Hall.
November 16: Ross from Friends
With Talk To Me You’ll Understand, the British DJ and producer became an internet sensation overnight – the track currently has over 8 million streams on YouTube. The artist found a home on the Brainfeeder label, side by side with artists such as Thundercat and Flying Lotus. Now he’s back with his second album Thread, which he’ll be presenting to you this evening at Helios37. Just don’t talk to him while he’s DJing.
November 22: The Cure
It’s Tuesday, I’m in love… Perhaps the biggest concert of the month goes to Robert Smith and band. The album Songs of a Lost World, which should have been released before the tour, has unfortunately not yet seen the light of day. Nevertheless, the tour is on and with 13 studio albums, no one can complain that there is a lack of songs that the British legends can perform live. Where are they performing? In the Lanxess Arena.
November 23: Sting
The quality November continues with another highlight. Sting offers fans exactly what they expect on the My Songs tour: a run through the best songs of his long career, both those with The Police and his solo works. That means Englishman In New York, Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Message In A Bottle and much more on this evening in the Lanxess Arena.
November 23: Little Simz
UK rapper Little Simz is one of the most interesting exports from the island. With Mercury nominations, a critically acclaimed music career and a starring role in the Netflix series Top Boy, Simz has had a meteoric few years. Her latest album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert can be heard at Carlswerk Victoria, on one of the nights when she’s more extroverted.
November 23: Alt-J
A pandemic album called The Dream is rather unusual. A fitting adjective for alt-J, who experiment even more on it than before. It’s about murder, love, twisted logic, revenge, cryptocurrencies, loss and hope. We hope you want to listen to it live. If you can say yes, then let’s go to the Palladium.
November 28+29: Kraftklub
The music of this band from Chemnitz is somewhere between indie, punk and rap. After a break of over 5 years, Kargo was released in September, which the musical musclemen will be presenting over two days at the Palladium. Not a bad idea for a Monday or Tuesday.
